Health & Safety Policy

1. Purpose

UK Fencing Ltd is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contractors, visitors, and members of the public affected by our operations. This Health and Safety Policy outlines our commitment to maintaining a safe working environment in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), and other relevant UK legislation.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees, directors, contractors, subcontractors, agency workers, and visitors involved in or affected by UK Fencing Ltd’s construction activities, including work on construction sites, offices, and other workplaces.

3. Policy Statement

UK Fencing Ltd is dedicated to:

a. Providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.

b. Preventing accidents, injuries, and work-related ill health.

c. Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards.

d. Promoting a positive safety culture through training, communication, and consultation.

e. Continuously improving our health and safety performance.

4. Responsibilities

a. Management: The Managing Director and senior management are responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reviewing this policy. They will ensure adequate resources are allocated to health and safety and lead by example in promoting a safety-first culture.

b. Site Managers/Supervisors: Site managers are responsible for ensuring safe working practices on construction sites, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing safety procedures.

c. Employees and Contractors: All individuals must comply with this policy, follow safety procedures, use provided safety equipment, and report hazards or incidents promptly.

d. Health and Safety Officer: The designated Health and Safety Officer will oversee compliance, conduct inspections, provide training, and investigate incidents.

e. HR Department: The HR team will support health and safety training and maintain records of incidents and training.

5. Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work

a. UK Fencing Ltd will conduct regular risk assessments for all construction activities, identifying hazards and implementing control measures.

b. Method statements and safe systems of work will be developed and communicated for all high-risk tasks, such as working at height, operating machinery, or handling hazardous materials.

c. All employees and contractors will be informed of relevant risks and safety procedures before starting work.

6. Training and Competence

a. All employees and contractors will receive appropriate health and safety training, including site-specific inductions, toolbox talks, and task-specific training (e.g., CSCS certification, working at height, or plant operation).

b. Refresher training will be provided regularly to ensure ongoing competence.

c. Subcontractors must provide evidence of relevant qualifications and training.

7. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

a. UK Fencing Ltd will provide suitable PPE (e.g., hard hats, high-visibility clothing, safety boots, gloves, and eye/ear protection) free of charge to all employees and contractors.

b. All individuals must use PPE as required and report any defects immediately.

8. Incident Reporting and Investigation

a. All accidents, near misses, and work-related ill health must be reported immediately to the site manager or Health and Safety Officer.

b. Incidents will be investigated promptly to identify causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

c. Reportable incidents under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013) will be reported to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

9. Emergency Procedures

a. Emergency procedures, including fire evacuation and first aid, will be established for all workplaces and communicated to all personnel.

b. First aid kits and trained first aiders will be available on all sites.

c. Fire risk assessments and evacuation drills will be conducted regularly.

10. Workplace Inspections and Maintenance

a. Regular inspections of construction sites, equipment, and vehicles will be conducted to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.

b. Defective equipment or unsafe conditions must be reported and rectified immediately.

11. Consultation and Communication

a. UK Fencing Ltd will consult with employees and contractors on health and safety matters through regular meetings, toolbox talks, and feedback mechanisms.

b. Safety information, including this policy, will be displayed prominently at all workplaces.

12. Monitoring and Review

a. This policy will be reviewed annually or following significant changes in operations or legislation to ensure it remains effective.

b. Health and safety performance will be monitored through audits, inspections, and incident reviews.

c. Feedback from employees and contractors is encouraged to improve safety practices.

13. Reporting Concerns

a. Employees, contractors, or visitors who identify health and safety concerns should report them to their site manager, the Health and Safety Officer or email nadia@ukfl.uk.

b. Concerns will be investigated promptly and confidentially, with no retaliation against those reporting in good faith.
